  • At the dawn of the twentieth century,  pioneers of aviation such as Clément Ader, Otto Lillenthal or the brothers Wright did not have airports. They made do with meadows to satisfy their passion without suspecting the prodigious booming of the aeronautical industry. There were no airports at the time.
  • At the end of the First World War, certain visionary souls have already understood the economical significance of the air carriage. Before carrying passengers, aircrafts had carried postal bags, communication items for the economic activity.
  • In fact, only after the second World War that the aeronautical industry would transit from a traditional phase to a full-fledged industry. States were well aware of the strategic importance of this industry.

This development was made possible because local stakeholders realized that an airport was a structural tool for national planning and development. They have therefore maintained this booming by contributing to the development of air services. In fact, air carriage plays a crucial role in the economic development of a region, if an airport exists. In the absence of an airport, an air company will land elsewhere and a major part of the economic activity will depend on it.
Airport development, like harbors, is an incredible engine of economic growth. These facilities are today totally interdependent.

At the dawn of the twenty-first century, airports have become tools for economic development at a regional, national and international level.

  • In Morocco, the good distribution of airports on its territory, the open sky agreements concluded on 15 December 2005 between Moroccan authorities and the European Union leads not only the need of new strategies but also the involvement of new stakeholders in this activity ( Low-Cost) stakes remain however the same. Airport should always be managed in a rigorous and highly professional way that takes into consideration the needs of concerned populations.
